Chandy Confident That Congress Will Win Meghalaya
Senior Kerala Congress leader K C Joseph had been selected along with Chandy by Congress President Rahul Gandhi to represent the party in the Meghalaya elections to be held on February 27, 2018.
At present, Meghalaya is being ruled by Congress and the party leaders are confident that they will be able to be in power at the state after the February 27, 2018 elections. Ex-Kerala CM Oommen Chandy also informed that if they win the state elections of Meghalaya this will be an encouraging factor for the party in the general elections to be held in 2019.
Besides speaking about the state elections, Chandy also commented on the Lok Sabha elections, stating that the NDA government came into power making numerous commitments to the people in 2014. But they have failed to keep any of their promises and the country is not happy about this. Chandy and K C Joseph will be heading the pre-poll strategy and campaigns for the party; the decision was taken by Rahul Gandhi.
Detailing the failures of the BJP government, Chandy said that the central government was unable to control inflation. When Congress was in power BJP had accused them of the same but even during their regime farmers and common masses suffered a lot due to rise in price of goods and services. He also said that though the oil prices became almost one fourth around the world, it is still high in India. He also hinted at a coalition saying that Congress under the able leadership of Rahul Gandhi will try to unite all the parties believing in democracy and secularity to replace BJP government.
When asked whether Congress is going to involve CPIM in this coalition or not, Chandy went ahead to say that they do not have any issues with any party who believes in secularism.
