Amazon Rolls Out 6 New Fulfillment Centers
Amazon carries on to invest in increasing up its capabilities of warehouse for the India market as it includes 6 new FCs (fulfillment centers) for its large furniture and appliances business, the firm claimed to the media this week.
With the inclusion of the latest FCs, Amazon has a sum of 15 FCs for this sector, which e-commerce companies have been looking upon as a high growth factor. Amazon in total has 62 FCs in the country.
The firm claimed that it started the new FCs to meet the increasing requirement for products such as air conditioners, refrigerators, washing machines, and air coolers in the summer season. While handsets boost a major fraction of sales for Amazon, it has been forcefully boosting the impetus around huge appliances to battle Flipkart (which too is making extra capacity for this sector). Flipkart declared plans to install a 100-acre logistics park to reinforce its infrastructure for delivery.
“Our investments in this specialized system will enable us to come nearer to users and provide quick delivery of large furniture and appliances. We have increased our delivery station network, storage space, and the number of cities we deliver by 2x in just this 1 Year to support the development of these segments. With a sum of 62 FCs, having a storage capability of 18.5 Million Cubic Feet, we carry on to have the biggest fulfillment infrastructure in the sector, “claimed VP for India customer fulfillment at Amazon India, Akhil Saxena, claimed to the media in an interview.
Previously in 2017, Amazon announced its 2nd Fulfillment Center in UP. The latest center in Lucknow is built across 50000 Square Feet with more than 35000 Cubic Feet of storage room. The company claimed that the move to install this center gave a number of medium and small businesses a state to leverage the expansion of digital economy.
